This course will be focused on Alice De Luise Massa's own personal experience dealing with a life-changing progressive loss of vision. This journey has led Alice to reevaluate her life, her priorities, and especially her professional role. In this module, she shares her adventures so that others can see that occupational therapy has given her the skills to reinvent herself and find a new, exciting, and purposeful life utilizing her passion for occupational therapy, her skills, and her talents.
Learning Objectives
Following this course module, participants will:
- understand the basic impact of low vision on human occupation
- gain a basic knowledge of the role of an occupational therapy practitioner in low vision
- recognize how the skills of an OT/OTA can be self-directed when they themselves are faced with life-changing events
- become aware of the options for non-traditional roles in occupational therapy
